This hospital-based rotation offers an immersive, hands-on experience in Nephrology and Internal Medicine, perfect for medical students and International Medical Graduates (IMGs) seeking clinical exposure. It provides an opportunity to manage a wide range of conditions in a setting affiliated with the University of Chicago Medical Center.

Key Features

LOR: Performance-based, provided on Hospital Letterhead by attending physicians.
Rotation Schedule:

  • Daily Rounds: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
  • Optional Saturday hours available based on interest
  • Times are subject to change based on the attending physician’s schedule

Learning Opportunities

Clinical Skills

  • Perform detailed history taking and physical examinations.
  • Check labs, patient notes, and formulate differential diagnoses and treatment plans.
  • Manage patients with ARF, CRF, ESRD requiring dialysis, acid-base imbalances, and fluid/electrolyte disorders.

Diverse Patient Care

  • Treat ICU and in-patients with internal medicine and nephrology conditions.
  • Attend CKD and hypertension clinics as part of the rotation.

Team Integration

  • Collaborate with residents, fellows, nurses, and subspecialists to provide holistic patient care.
  • Participate in discharge planning and patient follow-ups.
  • Engage in didactics, lectures, and grand rounds.

Medical Requirements

  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)
  • PPD (within 6 months)
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination
  • Immunization records

Other Requirements

  • Updated resume
  • Medical school transcript/ID
  • Professional attire: Casual business attire or scrubs with a lab coat

Payment Policy

  • Secure your slot with either full or partial payment (50%).
  • Full payment is due 6 weeks before the start date.
  • Cancellations:
    • 50% refund for cancellations made 4+ weeks before the start date.
    • No refunds for cancellations within 4 weeks of the start date.
  • No rescheduling fee if done one month in advance.
