Illinois Chicago Cardiology/ICU/Internal Medicine Hospital-Based Rotation Overview

Rotation Schedule

Timings:

  • Monday – Friday: 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM
  • Optional: Saturday/Sunday rounding with the attending physician

Setting:

  • 90% Inpatient and 10% Outpatient
  • Two weeks at one hospital, followed by two weeks at another hospital

Outpatient Clinics:

  • 1-2 times a week for approximately 4 hours

Key Learning Opportunities

  • Inpatient Rounds:

    • Perform history taking and physical examinations on consulted cardiology patients.
    • Review labs and EMR to form an assessment and treatment plan.
    • Discuss treatment plans with attending physicians and nurses.
  • Specialized Skills:

    • Learn EKG assessments.
    • Observe echocardiograms and stress tests.
  • Educational Opportunities:

    • Attend didactics, lectures, and grand rounds.
    • Participate in teaching sessions on Zoom led by the Head of Cardiology.
  • Comprehensive Experience:

    • Engage with a diverse patient population.
    • Learn discharge planning and execution.
    • Understand the US healthcare system under the supervision of experienced teaching faculty.

    • MMR
    • PPD (within 6 months)
    • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination
    • Immunization records

    • Professional attire: Casual business attire or scrubs with a lab coat

Payment Policy

  • Secure your slot with either full or partial payment (50%).
  • Full payment is due 6 weeks before the start date.
  • No rescheduling fee if done one month in advance.

Cancellations:

  • 50% refund for cancellations made 4+ weeks before the start date.
  • No refunds for cancellations within 4 weeks of the start date.
